Summary- Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
Tool Room Machinist I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.
Tool Room Machinist II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with an emphasis in machine shop or tool and die; or a minimum of one year related experience and/or hands on training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry and trigonometry as they relate to machining variables.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Other Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with conventional and CNC lathes, mills and grinders. The following are operations routinely performed by tool room personnel: turning (CNC and conventional); milling (CNC and conventional); drilling; grinding; lapping; deburring; precision measuring; threading; tapping; fixturing; CNC machine setup and cutting tool grinding/sharpening. Acquiring a general knowledge of the supported processes will be essential.
